My name is Genesis. I am 31 years old and I am a self-taught Visual Artist focused on Traditional Painting semi-professionally (I obtained a university degree two years ago) and Digital Art (Including Fan Art) as an amateur. However, I don't fully consider myself a ti professional artist because there are still many things I need to learn to become one. My painting teachers (from the university) not taught me to paint in a stylized way as everyone does, but to be free with my strokes when I drawing or painting and be creative with each of my works. They taught me to develop my own artistic style, instead of copying (or imitating) another artist's style. They motivated me to be myself through art .
I started my DA journey in November 2009… So it's been 13 years of being here! . Honestly, this is one of the best things that has ever happened to me, as I found a wonderful place to share and showcase my creations alongside many other highly talented artists without fear of judgment. Over time, I met many very talented and friendly young artists whose artistic work inspired me to improve my own style of traditional drawing (I was not very good at it at the time), they even motivated me to enter Digital Art, which was new for me. I also developed a strong taste and sensitivity for color, more interest in traditional painting and the desire to study arts professionally to become a great artist.
Many of those artists became in my best friends ever since. Throughout these 13 years, we shared a lot of fun things together, they were always there for me when I needed it most (I also gave them my support in difficult times) and with their knowledge and experiences, they helped me grow little by little as artist and person.
Currently, I am the Director of Fan-Art-World and Ayu-dA. Co-Founder in Artistle and Collaborator in other groups such as projecteducate, PromotingPositivity, DevNews, Traditionalists, DDSuggestionDrive and AdvisoryBoard, selflessly helping others through my own knowledge of art and slowly giving back to this wonderful community everything that has given me since that I joined. I have written several articles on Art History (focused on different painting techniques and genres) and Fan Art. I have also highlighted many very talented (but little known) artists through my “Fan Art World Feature” on my journal and with other similar projects carried out by the Administrators, Volunteers and other members of the community.
Some pople say that I am like a hummingbird, because I am always looking for places where help is needed to contribute my grain of sand. I do it mainly for the love of art, for the community and to demonstrate that I can be a helpful and collaborative person despite my shortcomings, that I am also able to help others in any way. I feel happy and satisfied every time I see the positive results of my contributions in people, that is, every time I have managed to help them in what they need and they thank me for that with a smile . This motivates me to continue my community work. For that reason, I would like to be a Community Volunteer in Traditional Art or Fan Art someday .

Fan Art is a term commonly used today to refer to those visual artworks (illustrations, comics, etc) created by fans - whether they are amateur, semi-professional or professional artists - and that are directly based on characters, stories, scenery, costumes, concepts and universes previously created by third parties for different media such as movies, TV series, games, anime, manga, comics and books. Some well-known examples include Dragon Ball Z by Akira Toriyama, Sailor Moon by Naoko Takeuchi, Harry Potter by J. K.Rowling, Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien, Super Mario by Nintendo, Pokemon by Nintendo, Undertale by Toby Fox, Steven Universe by Rebecca Sugar, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic by Lauren Faust, Spider-Man: No Way Home by Marvel Studios, Turning Red by Domee Shi, Miraculous Ladybug by Thomas Astruc and many others.
Many artists use Fan Art as a medium to show their admiration to these people, drawing their favorite characters in different situations that were never seen in the original story canon and developing entirely new narratives from them. Therefore, Fan Art can also be a very imaginative medium in that sense (contrary to what many people think), since there are no limits to creativity, all people are different and each artwork has a unique visual style that it comes from personal expression of each artist.
However, making Fan Art implies working with characters and/or stories that do not belong to us, which are protected by the copyright of their creators and the different copyright laws around the world. This means that, technically, the creation and distribution of Fan Art is illegal in many countries, but most copyright holders of original works allow these creations as long as we do NOT use them for profit; while others are not as permissive and require artists to create their own original works. Therefore, Fan Art is seen as unique pieces and true treasures that have the same value as an original artwork.
The Fan Art community has grown a lot since its inception and hope that this continues, that appear more talented and wonderful artists who show a willingness to share their knowledge and experiences to help this great empire to continue growing more.
The communityrelations Department has been around since the early years of DeviantArt, but it was known as Artist Relations back then and consisted of Gallery Directors. Later, in October 2008, the department changed its name to the current one, while the GDs were renamed Gallery Moderators (Currently, Community Volunteers or CVs) for clarity. Back in 2007, the Fan Art gallery got its first Director: animator
Since then, all directors (CVs) who have protected to this wonderful gallery, have devoted a lot of time and effort, combined with his unquestionable community spirit, to promote fan art in the community and help artists of Fan Art to be better every day
